The Roots of Hei-View Farms

Marcel and Marie Heinrich’s story is one of resilience, family, and a passion for farming that has passed through generations.

Their journey together began in the early 1940s when they met at a local dance. The connection between them was instant, sparking the foundation of a strong partnership that would endure decades. Marcel, at the time, was a drill sergeant in the U.S. Army, training troops for World War II. As the war ended and the world shifted, so did their lives.

In 1946, Marcel and Marie moved to Bliedorn, Iowa, where they started their first farm. Like many farms of the day, it was a diverse operation with chickens, hogs, beef cows, and dairy cows—a little bit of everything to sustain their growing family. The early days were a testament to their hard work and determination as they laid the groundwork for what would become a lasting farming legacy.

After a few years, the Heinrichs moved up to a sheep farm on Caves Road, near Maquoketa, Iowa, continuing their journey in agriculture. However, a pivotal moment came in 1951 when they found their new home on 69th Street. It was a decision that shaped the future of the Heinrich family for generations to come. If they hadn’t made that move, Marcel and Marie were prepared to take on a different path—owning the Baldwin Locker and running a butcher shop.

But the farm called to them, and they followed their instincts. The move allowed the family to continue farming and provided a place for future generations to grow and thrive. Marcel and Marie’s five children—Jean, Paul, Connie, Judy, and Joe—were raised with the same values of hard work and dedication that defined their parents.

In 1997, a significant family discussion took place. The question was how to honor the family’s legacy while ensuring that the farm stayed intact for future generations. That year, Hei-View Farms was born. Each of the Heinrich children wanted to own a part of the farm, understanding its importance to their family history and future.

Hei-View Farms stands as a testament to Marcel and Marie Heinrich’s vision and the efforts of their children to preserve the family legacy. The farm continues to be a place where generations of Heinrichs grow, learn, and work together.

No matter what it is, don’t be afraid to be creative to keep that spark going
